The cat's eye usually refers to the chrysoberyl cat's eye, and is named after the cat's eyes, which look like a line that is tight and vertical when exposed to light. And if you don't cut it well, the band will be off-center or lick across. Cat's eye is the same mineral as alexandrite that changes color under incandescent and fluorescent lights, and rarely there is alexandrite cat's eye that has both of these effects. At the Christie's and Sotheby's auctions in New York, cat-eyes larger than 5 carats are often set on men's rings. In the United States, it is a gem that is favored by males because of its excellent durability, but in Japan, relatively small grains of 2-3 carats have been tailored into female rings for sale.
